Salzburg, 6 April 2016 - The go-ahead for the expansion of the Spare Parts Centre (TVZ) was given in September 2013 - and its opening took place today in an official inauguration ceremony. "We are very happy to finally celebrate the completion of this large-scale expansion project. Established in 1984, the TVZ as logistics platform for the distribution of original spare parts to the Volkswagen Group brands in Austria and Eastern Europe, is of great value", says Alain Favey, CEO of Porsche Holding Salzburg. Among the guests of honour at the opening ceremony were Dr. Wilfried Haslauer, Governor of the Land of Salzburg, and Joachim Maislinger, Mayor of the Municipality of Wals-Siezenheim.

The enhancement project was divided into three phases. First, the road at the western property boundaries had to be moved. Then, a new office building was built, followed by a 2-story warehouse offering an additional surface of 20,000 m². Total storage space has been expanded to some 77,000 m², which is as big as 11 football fields. The investment volume amounts to roughly EUR 31 million.

"By expanding the TVZ, we have set course for continued growth", says Alain Favey. The model initiatives of the Volkswagen Group brands entail an increase in vehicle population and, as a consequence, a further diversification of spare parts. The TVZ is now well prepared to meet increasing stock requirements.

"It is of great value to our business location that Europe's largest automotive distributor is based in Salzburg. Porsche Holding's investment in the spare parts centre in Wals-Siezenheim not only allows to sustainably safeguard jobs in Salzburg, but also to create new ones", explains Dr. Wilfried Haslauer, Governor of the Land of Salzburg.

Delivery within half a day

The TVZ ensures the supply of spare parts for the VW, Audi, SEAT, ŠKODA und Porsche brands to the service network in 18 countries. It holds a leading position in performance and customer satisfaction. The warehouse currently counts 112,000 spare parts. Each day some 40 trucks and 20 railway carriages leave the TVZ, transporting up to 40,000 items. "It only takes little more than half a day to have the required spare part available at a dealership in Austria", explains Walter Huber, Head of the Spare Parts Centre. Ball bearings, clutches, etc. reach Austria's neighbouring countries in less than twenty hours. Prompt parts supply to the body shops ensures that repair time is kept as short as possible for customers.

The TVZ employs some 360 people. Thanks to the expansion, 30 new jobs were already created in 2014. The TVZ employees mainly come from the surrounding areas, making it one of the largest employers in the region.

Joachim Maislinger, Mayor of the Municipality of Wals-Siezenheim, said: "With its investment into the expansion of the Parts Centre, Porsche Holding continues to sustainably secure numerous jobs within its immediate catchment area."

Photovoltaic power system covering up to 75 % of the energy required

The new warehouse's roof with its 10,260 m² is equipped with one of the biggest PV systems around Salzburg. On sunny days, the system generates 75 % of the total electricity required by the TVZ. The 2,112 solar panels mounted will produce 340,000 kWh/year of energy. This amount of electricity produced can cover, for example, the charge capacity of the 112 forklifts in use.
