Sustainability is more than just a buzzword for the Austrian Ministry of the Interior

• e-mobility within the police force is to be tested in practice with scientific support

Salzburg, 6 October 2020 - At a presentation of study results in Salzburg's Mooncity on 29 September, the Austrian Minister of the Interior, Karl Nehammer, said that "e-mobility will also play an important role in the police force in the future." As a modern public institution, the Ministry of the Interior, together with the Austrian Institute of Technology (AIT), Porsche Austria, Allmobil and Wien Energie, therefore conducted a KIRAS study back in 2019, which analysed the potential of alternative drive forms for the police."

"In addition to the fundamental possibilities in terms of applying e-mobility in the police sector, the study also examined battery technology, charging process and infrastructure requirements," explained the two AIT Centre Managers, Dr Helmut Leopold and Dr Christian Chimani.

For years now, the Ministry of the Interior and the police have been making a significant contribution to climate protection and reducing CO₂ emissions by means of the continuous rejuvenation of the vehicle fleet. "We are convinced that electric mobility will also play an important role in the police in the future and will thus make a positive contribution to achieving the environmental goals," said Dr Hans Peter Schützinger, CEO of the Porsche Holding Salzburg Management Board. Porsche Bank AG has been a partner of the Ministry of the Interior in terms of fleet management since 2005. "We are very proud to have been at the disposal of the police force both as a partner and fleet service provider for many years, and we look forward to an ongoing, beneficial collaboration," said the CEO of Porsche Bank AG, Hannes Maurer.

In a follow-up project to take place from summer 2021, the findings already gained on the use of e-mobility in the police will be examined in greater detail in practice in a larger test phase. "Especially in such a sensitive field of operation as the police force, the use of new technologies must be sufficiently tested before a final decision is made", said Nehammer.

The new Volkswagen ID.3 and ID.4 electric vehicles are to be used for the planned joint implementation of the follow-up project with scientific support. The new Volkswagen ID.3 is now also available on the ordering platform of the Federal Procurement Agency. Wilfried Weitgasser, Managing Director of Porsche Austria, has now agreed to provide support and know-how for the charging infrastructure via the Moon brand in the interests of providing a holistic view of the project. Moon is an Allmobil brand - a company of Porsche Holding Salzburg.
